 I would like to welcome you to the Youngstown State University's Saxophone Studio website. I hope as you peruse our site you will get a sense of the great tradition of saxophone study that
is found here in my studio, and also a feeling for the quality of the members of the studio and the friendly comaraderie and mutual support found among our saxophone students.
Youngstown Ohio is located one hour away from both Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Both of these major cities enjoy rich traditions in the arts, and our students are regularly attending concerts by the great artists of our day in both the jazz and classical idioms in those great cities.
I am privileged to teach fine undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing degree programs in music education or performance. We also have a number of students who have strong interests in both jazz and classical music, and this well roundedness is encouraged among those students who have interests in pursuing experiences and studies in both areas.
In addition to an excellent tradition in saxophone study, you should know that YSU also is very proud of its award-winning jazz studies area, with a strong improvisation and ensemble program chaired by jazz saxophonist Dr. Kent Engelhardt.
Better yet, though, would be for you to come and visit us. My students and I would be happy to host any prospective student here at YSU as a way of helping you become even better acquainted with our great programs of study, faculty and students.
